Innovative researcher: ...“ – a series of workshops allows to researchers from our European Integrated Center for the Development of Metallic Alloys & Compounds to enrich their experience in new perspective belonging to experts from outside the field of science as well as scientists. This time, we will address issues concerning the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in scientific research. AI can speed up literature reviews, assist with data analysis and make complex findings easier to communicate. However, it can also invent references, reinforce existing biases and make it difficult to see where assistance ends and authorship begins. This workshop takes a practical look at how generative AI and specialized research tools may be used thoughtfully, critically and transparently. Drawing on real academic examples, we will explore hallucinations, bias and the limitations of AI-generated results, along with reliable verification methods. We will also consider what the AI Act means for researchers, how AI use relates to research integrity and how to disclose it without questioning the credibility of one’s work. The aim is not to discourage researchers from using AI, but to help them use it more carefully, accurately and responsibly. Our meeting will be led by: Dr. Magdalena Wencka (Ph.D. in physics, solid-state physicist and specialist on innovations) and our guest Dr. Dota Szymborska who holds a Ph.D. in Humanities with a focus on ethics, alongside degrees in philosophy (logic) and sociology (applied social sciences) from the University of Warsaw. As an academic, lecturer, two-time TEDx speaker, and IMPACT’26 speaker, she is deeply committed to promoting high ethical standards in both the research and business applications of artificial intelligence. Dota leads a research team developing an AI assistant and is a member of a Research Center focused on integrating AI into education and management. As an Assistant Professor at WSB Merito University in Warsaw, she actively applies philosophical and sociological frameworks to her teaching practice. Since March 2024, she has been a member of the AI Working Group (GRAI) at the Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs, where she currently leads the "AI, Law, and Democracy" section. Her contributions to the tech industry have been widely recognized. She was named one of the Top 10 Women in Data Science in Poland (2024) and featured in the global "Strong Women in IT" report (2025). Outside of academia and tech, she unplugs by running and playing golf.

As every year, we invite you to participate in our ED&I RAD workshops!
